Olympian Springs

Known by 1791 as Mud Lick Springs, this famous resort was favored for a century by prominent visitors such as Henry Clay. Kentucky's first stagecoach route began in 1803 between here and Lexington. Many people from Lexington fled here during the cholera epidemic of 1833. The 28th U.S. Infantry camped here during the War of 1812. A Civil War cavalry battle was fought here on Oct. 19, 1864.
