The county seat moved to Macon City from Bloomington by an act of the Legislature in 1863. The first court was held in Macon City on the 4th Monday of September 1863 at Allen Academy at the corner of Union and Jackson Streets. The first term of court in the building was held in September 1865. The building cost $30,000. An annex was built in 1895 for Probate Court and deed record at a cost of $7,000.
