Near Mangum's Crossing in the Sugar Hill area, at the present site of the bridge at Georgia Highway 20 and Peachtree Industrial Boulevard, a tragic train wreck on August 23, 1908, became one of the area's more infamous stories. A twelve-year-old boy was accused of placing a bolt on the tracks and causing the wreck of train #38. The train engineer, Benjamin Dewberry, and his assistant, Mayson Wadkins, lost their lives in the disaster.
