The Chenango Canal Slip Scoop was a horse drawn tool, part shovel and part wheel-less wheelbarrow, that was pivotal in the construction of the Chenango Canal. The 97-mile-long canal ran along the Chenango River from 1837-1878, linking the Susquehanna River in Binghamton to the Erie Canal in Utica. The canal crossed the Greene village center at Canal Street.
