Georgia's first grain elevator was completed at Orchard Hill in 1946 by the Swint Seed and Grain Co. The original unit, with a capacity of 106,000 bushels, was filled with the 1946 crop and drew grain from 200 miles away. A second unit, with a capacity of 130,000 bushels, was completed in 1954, and a drier and feed mill were added. The elevators reflect the courage, leadership, and vision of State Senator Albert G. Swint, who built them. A leader in religion, agriculture, education, and health, he served in both houses of the General Assembly and as president of the Georgia and National Ginners Associations.
