Deseret Peak
Nature
Deseret Peak, the highest summit in Utah’s Stansbury Mountains, rises 11,035 feet in the Deseret Peak Wilderness west of Grantsville. Standing between desert basin and alpine terrain, east of the Skull Valley Indian Reservation, it is also the state’s fourth most topographically prominent peak. Its relative accessibility from Salt Lake City and the striking contrast of landscapes around it make it a favored destination for hikers and backcountry skiers. A common route is a 7.4-mile out-and-back trail with 3,595 feet of elevation gain. From the summit, broad views extend across western Utah, sometimes as far as Mount Nebo in the Wasatch Mountains.
