Deseret Peak Wilderness is a protected mountain landscape in Utah’s Stansbury Mountains within the Uinta-Wasatch-Cache National Forest, near Tooele, Grantsville, and the Great Salt Lake. Part of the Great Basin ecosystem, it combines dry lower country with springs and intermittent creeks higher up, rising from about 6,000 feet to the 11,031-foot limestone summit of Deseret Peak. Its alpine basins, ridges, snowy slopes, and varied vegetation reflect a transition zone between the Great Basin and the Rocky Mountains. Popular with backpackers, horse packers, and hunters, the area was added late to the Utah Wilderness Act of 1984, highlighting the conservation importance of this mountain block.
