Mount Vernon Cemetery is the oldest active cemetery in St. Francis County. It began about 1854 as a family cemetery used by the Mallorys, whose home stood a short distance north. The early town of Mount Vernon lay immediately north, and later other families were permitted to use the cemetery. Descendants of the original family remain active in the cemetery's management today.
