Woolsey Peak is a protected wilderness area in Arizona’s Gila Bend Mountains, centered on a summit that rises about 2,500 feet above the surrounding desert to 3,270 feet. Established in 1990 under the Arizona Desert Wilderness Act and managed by the U.S. Bureau of Land Management, it adjoins the Signal Mountain Wilderness to the north. The area is valued as an especially intact example of the Sonoran Desert, with ridges, ragged peaks, lava flows, and basalt mesas that create a stark volcanic landscape. Its relatively pristine habitat supports mule deer, desert bighorn sheep, javelina, bobcats, and mountain lions.
