The First State Bank of Girard was the first brick building in Crawford County, erected by Franklin Playter in 1870. It was owned by the state's first woman banker, Sarah A. Haldeman, from 1905 to 1915. From 1915 to 1918, it was the first home of Mr. and Mrs. E Haldeman-Julius.
