Five Points was named in 1885 for the five roads that converged at a single point. Before that, its post office was known as Lystra and was operated by Postmaster W.C. Smith. The town was incorporated in 1915, making it Chambers County's oldest incorporated town. The Baptist Church was the first to place the name Five Points on its building in 1929. Jim Belcher gave the land for the cemetery, where Nanny Stills Belcher became the first person interred. In 1925, Five Points became the first town of its size to receive electricity from Alabama Power, and citizens had to erect their own poles from Stroud to White Pains to obtain service. Five Points was also home to the first consolidated school in the state. In 1992, the town elected its first African-American mayor, Geneva Bledsoe.
