Reid State Park is a 770-acre public recreation area on Georgetown Island where the Maine coast meets the Atlantic, distinguished by an uncommon mix of broad sandy beaches, dunes, rocky tidepools, salt marshes, and a tidal lagoon. Created in 1946 after Georgetown native Walter E. Reid donated the land to the state, it reflects both his personal ties to the area and its public use. Mile Beach, Half Mile Beach, and the warmer waters of The Lagoon make it a popular place for swimming, picnicking, fishing, and hiking. The park also protects important nesting habitat for endangered least terns and piping plovers.
