Eartha, in Yarmouth, Maine, is a giant globe housed in the former DeLorme headquarters and recognized as the world’s largest rotating and revolving globe. Completed in 1998, it measures just over 41 feet in diameter, weighs about 5,600 pounds, and was conceived by David DeLorme with Vincent J.P. Leblanc involved in its construction. Its surface was built from a large digital map database using satellite imagery and other geographic data. Tilted like the Earth and driven by two motors, it combines engineering and cartography at an unusual scale. Since Garmin acquired the building in 2016, it has remained a distinctive Maine landmark.
