Cowboy Mountain is a 5,853-foot peak at Stevens Pass in the Washington Cascades, part of the Chiwaukum Mountains within the Mount Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest. Its north slopes form part of the Stevens Pass Ski Area, making it a prominent winter recreation site. The mountain stands near important routes through the range, including the Pacific Crest Trail in the saddle between Cowboy Mountain and Big Chief Mountain, and its waters drain to the Tye River headwaters. It is also linked to major transportation history because the Cascade Tunnel was bored beneath it to protect Great Northern Railway trains from avalanches, a danger underscored by the deadly 1910 Wellington avalanche nearby.
