Scenic Hot Springs is a privately owned mineral spring near Scenic, Washington, whose commercial use began in the 1890s with Madison Hot Springs, a lodge serving rail travelers from Seattle. Though promoted as hot springs, the water naturally emerges only lukewarm, so it was heated and piped to bathhouses to create a bathing resort. Renamed Scenic Hot Springs, the resort operated until 1928, when nearby Great Northern Railway tunnel construction helped bring about its destruction. The site reemerged in the 1980s as an informal soaking destination with user-built tubs, but that revival ended in 2001. It now remains private and is accessible only by reservation.
