Cucamonga Peak, one of the highest summits in California’s San Gabriel Mountains, rises 8,862 feet in the Cucamonga Wilderness of the San Bernardino National Forest above the Inland Empire. Overlooking Rancho Cucamonga, Ontario, and Fontana, it is a prominent landmark west of Cajon Pass along Interstate 15. Its name comes from Rancho Cucamonga, a 19th-century Mexican land grant below, linking the mountain to the region’s earlier settlement and naming history. Known for both height and visibility, the summit can be seen from great distances on clear days. Reached by trails from Icehouse Canyon, it is a demanding 14-mile round-trip hike with significant elevation gain and exposure to weather.
