Mount Cheaha, Alabama's highest point at 2,407 feet above sea level, is part of the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains. A mountain can symbolize strength and endurance, but it also reflects transition and change. The Appalachian Mountains and Mount Cheaha were formed when the African plate crashed into the North American plate. At one point, the Cheaha mountain range was twice as tall as Mount Everest, which is 29,029 feet. Over time, water and wind slowly wore the range down, and eroded minerals and dirt settled in the valleys to create rich farm land.
