In 1933 the Civilian Conservation Corps began construction of Cheaha State Park as parks across the nation were built, and President Franklin D. Roosevelt provided jobs and stability as well as parks for future generations. The 2,799 acre Cheaha State Park is surrounded by the Talladega National Forest. In 1936 President Roosevelt created the Talladega National Forest, which encompasses 237,152 acres in 5 counties and is managed by the USDA Forest Service through conservation and multiple use management; the agency provides wildlife habitat, healthy forests, clean water, clean air, and recreation to visitors.
