Alvin Wood, an early settler, named this community in 1871. One of America’s oldest military schools, Kentucky Military Institute, was founded in 1845 and moved here in 1896. Nearby points of interest include Central State Hospital, founded on the site of Isaac Hite’s home, and Oxmoor, the home of Alexander Scott Bullitt, who helped draft Kentucky’s first state constitution.
