After the expulsion of trees and other natural resources, this landscape recovered, and the Laurel Highlands became an area known for the breathtaking beauty of its natural domain. At Laurel Hill State Park, visitors can step onto a historic logging railroad and find the stillness of an old growth forest. The Hemlock Natural Area preserves giants of an ancient forest left untouched by the lumberman's saw, the Tram Road Trail follows a former narrow gauge railway with remnants of rail, ties, and spikes, and the Laurel Hill Visitors Center offers interactive exhibits about the area's logging era.
