Hotel Del Rio and Casino, the oldest operating hotel in Isleton, opened in 1949. During its construction, the site was discovered to be an old Indian burial ground. Manuel Valine was the first owner of the building, which operated as a casino. Soon after its grand opening, gambling was outlawed in California, and several raids took place. During one of these raids, the Sheriff’s Department threw the slot machines into the Sacramento River, but Valine and some divers soon retrieved them. In a following raid, the machines were destroyed with sledgehammers.
