Philip Delano, born in Leiden and a Huguenot, came to Plymouth Colony on the “Fortune” in 1621. In 1637 the Plymouth Colony Court granted him land at this site. As a Purchaser, he helped repay the Colony’s debts to English merchants, and, well respected, he became a freeman. The Delano family in the Americas descends from him.
