Baraga State Park is a 56-acre public recreation area on Keweenaw Bay, an inlet of Lake Superior, beside the village of Baraga in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. Named for Bishop Frederic Baraga, it shares its name with the village and county. The state first bought land for the park in 1922 and began development in 1924, then expanded and improved it again in the 1930s through Works Progress Administration projects during the New Deal. The park remains an important multi-season lakeshore destination, offering swimming, fishing, paddling, picnicking, camping, a nature trail, a playground, metal detecting, and winter use for cross-country skiing and snowmobiling.
