On May 2, 1964, Henry Hezakiah Dee and Charles Eddie Moore were kidnapped by the Ku Klux Klan near this spot. They were later beaten, attached to iron weights, and drowned in the old Mississippi River. Their partial remains were first discovered on July 12 and 13, 1964.
