Germantown's famous covered bridge was built in 1870 and was reputed to be the only one of its kind in the world. It was restored in 1963 by the Covered Bridge Committee and was dedicated and officially opened to traffic by Senator Charles Whalen on October 17, 1964, during the administration of Mayor John B. McGuff.
