The Erie Railroad provided service to Long Eddy from the late 1800's to 1962, carrying freight such as milk and bluestone from sidings along the route to market in New York City. Passenger service ranged from one to four trains daily, and travelers could board for New York City at the Erie Depot in Long Eddy. The depot site can be seen at the foot of Depot Street where it meets Railroad Street, and the trip from Long Eddy to New York City took 4 hours 39 minutes.
