The building preserves several rare original architectural features. Its chimney pile, with a bake oven, three hearths, and a pilastered cap above the roof, survives as an uncommon example and reflects the builder’s ambition, since the domed bake oven in the side of the hall hearth required a small lean-to outside the north side of the building to cover it. Original hearths, wooden lintels, smoke panels, and jamb niches were revealed during restoration in 1938-40. During that restoration, two elaborate casement frames and a single-light frame were found inside the later lean-to on the north side; these were three-light structures containing leaded-glass windows. In the parlor, extensive sections of original, vertically molded oak sheathing remain in place, though some sheathing was removed and used as sub-siding in the mid eighteenth century. In the hall, an original two-ply door made of matching oak sheathing is also preserved, and the hall chamber has a chimney was of original, molded cedar. The molded decoration on the sheathing relates directly to similar moldings on early furniture.
