During the Vietnam conflict, Buchanan County residents who gave their lives while serving in the United States armed forces included Army personnel Gerald Wayne Cantrell, Stoney Lee Deel, Roy Dean Wimmer, and Everett Duel Ratliff; Air Force serviceman Grayson Henry Newberry; and Marine Corps servicemen Godfred Blankenship and Luther Elmer Preston.
