Clove Furnace Ruin is the remains of an iron blast furnace built in 1854 at Arden, New York, by Robert and Peter Parrott as part of the Greenwood Iron Works. Using ore from local veins in what is now Harriman State Park, Clove operated alongside the older Greenwood Furnace in the Ramapo Mountains. Together they supplied iron to the Parrotts' West Point Foundry at Cold Spring, a foundry closely associated with the Parrott rifle, a widely used Union cannon during the Civil War. Clove ceased operations soon after Robert Parrott's death in 1877 and survives as a reminder of the iron industry that once shaped this region.
