Hollows cut into the face of the mountain are the work of the streams that flow through them. Down Dark Hollow flows Hog Camp Branch, which drains Big Meadows Swamp. Along the Dark Hollow Trail, the stream can be seen cutting its valley deeper and gradually wearing away the mountain. Six-tenths of a mile down the trail is Dark Hollow Falls, nearer the Skyline Drive and easier to reach than any other waterfall in the Park.
