Robert H. “Bob” Vickers served as a Clayton City Councilman from 1945 to 1951, as Sole County Commissioner and Judge of the Ordinary from 1952 to 1972, and as Probate Judge from 1972 to 1984. With little concern for material things for himself, he spent most of his adult life working to improve the lives of others. Though he had access to the rich and powerful, he also regarded those at the lowest spoke on Fortune’s wheel. Across more than 35 years in public life, he was often challenged but never defeated, leaving office only at his death, and his deeds and works were remembered as benefits to generations to come.
