A tribute honored the defenders of the Republic in 1861-1865, praising the heroism and patriotism that inspired deeds of valor. It was erected in 1886 by Reno Post No. 64, Department of Pennsylvania, G.A.R., and the Veteran Corps of Company G, 12th Regiment, T. N. G. P.A.D. It also invoked the lines, “On fame’s eternal camping ground Their silent tents are spread And glory guards with solemn round the bivouac of the dead.”
