Fort Lupton, established in 1836 by Lieut. Lancaster P. Lupton, stood a quarter mile due west of this location. It served as a rendezvous for early fur trappers and was visited by Fremont and Kit Carson in 1843. Farming began here in the early forties, and in the sixties the site became an Overland Stage station and a refuge from Indians.
