Middle Peak is a 7,464-foot mountain in the northern Washington North Cascades, just south of the Canada–United States border in North Cascades National Park and the Stephen Mather Wilderness. Though not one of the range’s highest summits, it is notable for its steep rise, climbing about 4,000 feet above the Little Chilliwack River in only two miles. Its recorded climbing history began with the nearby southwest summit in 1859, and Middle Peak proper was first climbed in 1908 by James J. McArthur of the International Boundary Commission. Shaped by tectonic activity and repeated glaciation, it exemplifies the rugged relief and borderland setting of the northern Cascades.
