Ada Covered Bridge in Ada, Michigan, spans the Thornapple River near its meeting with the Grand River. Built in 1867 by William Holmes to carry Bronson Street, it is one of Michigan’s few publicly owned covered bridges and uses the Brown truss system patented by Josiah Brown Jr. The bridge served as an important route into the village until 1930, when highway traffic shifted to a new concrete bridge. Altered in 1913 and restored in 1941, it later survived a roof collapse in 1979 but was then destroyed by fire and rebuilt as a replica. Today it is maintained for pedestrians and remains a significant part of Ada’s identity.
