Grand Targhee Resort
Nature
Grand Targhee Resort is a secluded full-service ski resort in western Wyoming near Alta, reached from Idaho on the west side of the Teton Range. Its location gives it exceptional powder, with more than 500 inches of snowfall in a typical season, making it one of North America’s snowiest ski areas. Opened in 1969 through local east Idaho efforts, it grew gradually under several owners rather than following its original ambitious plan. Beyond downhill skiing, it offers Nordic trails, snowshoeing, summer recreation, and lodging. Its name links Grand Teton with Chief Targhee, a Bannock leader remembered for guiding his people through hardship and maintaining peace.
