The Teton Range in northwestern Wyoming stretches 40 miles along the edge of Jackson Hole, rising dramatically 4,000 to 7,000 feet above the valley with almost no foothills and forming one of the Rocky Mountains’ most striking landscapes. Much of its eastern side lies within Grand Teton National Park, and its central Cathedral Group includes Grand Teton, the highest peak at 13,775 feet. The range’s name has several proposed origins, including French voyageurs, the Teton Sioux, and the Shoshone word Teewinot. Geologically the youngest range in the Rockies, the Tetons were uplifted along the Teton fault while exposing rocks as old as 2.5 billion years.
