Near Lindsborg, Kansas, the Paint Creek site is an archaeological site preserving the remains of an ancestral Wichita village linked to the Little River focus of the Great Bend aspect. Occupied sometime between about 1300 and 1650 CE, it reflects a long period of precontact and early historic life on the central Plains. Its significance as a place for understanding that history received formal recognition in 1972, when it was listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
