Inside the western rim of the Wetumpka Impact Crater, on the crater floor in an area called the cliffs, a massive landslide from the southern rim followed the meteor's impact and carried vast quantities of clay and sandy sediment back into the crater. This event left widespread red and tan crater-filling deposits along Harrogate Springs Road. At the cliffs, the slide layers folded up against the harder rocks of the crater rim, and a large gully formed through erosion where groundwater emerges from the buried crater rim. The Wetumpka Impact Crater is 85 million years old.
