The Wetumpka Impact Crater includes a northwestern rim where several man-made cuts expose metamorphic bedrock. Mica schist forms the bedrock here to depths of several thousand feet. After the meteor impact explosion, the rock layers were reconfigured so that they dip away from the crater center, and their westward inclination is clearly visible at this site. The crater is 85 million years old.
