In 1910, in the environs of Mount Battie, eighteen-year-old Edna St. Vincent Millay left her home early in the morning to climb her favorite Camden Hills, where she was so deeply affected by her surroundings that she wrote “Renascence.” The poem received immediate public acclaim and marked the inspired beginning of the career of one of America’s finest lyric poets.
