Camden Hills State Park is a 5,710-acre recreation area above Penobscot Bay in Camden, Maine, where coastal scenery meets inland mountain terrain. Much of its basic infrastructure was created between 1935 and 1941, when the Civilian Conservation Corps built roads, trails, buildings, and other facilities under National Park Service direction before the land passed to the state in 1947. Later additions included the Mount Battie Auto Road and a stone staircase to the ocean. The park now supports year-round outdoor activity, with trails to Mount Battie, Mount Megunticook, and Maiden Cliff, whose name recalls the 1864 death of 12-year-old Elenora French.
