The Botanical Garden of the Ozarks, a nonprofit public garden in Fayetteville, Arkansas, was incorporated in 1994 and opened in 2007 as the first and still only botanical garden in Northwest Arkansas. Located on a 44-acre site near Lake Fayetteville, it began with nine themed “Backyard Gardens” designed to inspire home landscapes, including Japanese, vegetable and herb, children’s, shade, and native Ozark plantings. About six acres are now developed into 12 display gardens, with later additions such as the Founders Garden, Reading Railroad, Education Cottage Garden, and Arkansas’s only butterfly house. Education, environmental awareness, and community use are central to its role as a regional destination.
