Borestone Mountain in central Maine, near Willimantic in Piscataquis County, is a popular hiking destination within the Borestone Mountain Audubon Sanctuary, where Maine Audubon manages the mountain, Midday Pond, and several historic lodges. The year-round trail begins on Mountain Road about five miles north of Willimantic and runs about three miles to the summit, passing south and east of Midday Pond and a small one-room museum cabin open seasonally. Near the top, the route steepens sharply, with rocks and iron rungs aiding the climb. Its East Peak is especially valued for sweeping 360-degree views across central and western Maine toward the Quebec border.
