On January 24, 1963, a B-52 crash at Elephant Mountain near Greenville, Maine, claimed the lives of Lt. Col. Joe S. Simpson Jr., Maj. William W. Gabriel, Maj. Herbert L. Hansen, Maj. Robert J. Hill, Maj. Robert J. Morrison, Capt. Charles G. Leuchter, and T-Sgt. Michael F. O'Keefe; the survivors were Lt. Col. Dante E. Bulli and Capt. Gerald J. Adler.
