Kidd Lake State Natural Area in Monroe County, Illinois, protects 800 acres beside Fults Hill Prairie State Natural Area and preserves part of the Mississippi floodplain known as the American Bottoms. The site represents wetlands that were once widespread across the region. Its marsh, historically part of an 800-acre lake bed, has long supported wetland birds, including species now rare in Illinois. It remains an important stop for migrating waterfowl and continues to provide habitat for a diverse variety of birds, amphibians, and reptiles.
