Fults Hill Prairie Nature Preserve is a sanctuary for native plants and animals maintained in its natural condition so present and future generations can see the Illinois landscape as it appeared in the past. This living example of natural heritage is valuable for scientific studies and provides habitat for rare plants and animals. Fults Hill Prairie lies within the Northern Section of the Ozark Natural Division, a small part of the Ozark Uplift that occurs primarily in Missouri and Arkansas. It contains high-quality examples of loess hill prairie and limestone glade that were once more extensive in this region, and it is a nationally recognized Natural Landmark by the National Park Service.
