The Hanna–Honeycomb House on the Stanford University campus in Stanford, California, was designed by Frank Lloyd Wright for Paul and Jean Hanna and marked both his first San Francisco Bay Area work and his first non-rectangular structural system. Begun in 1937 and expanded over the next 25 years, it used hexagonal units, 120-degree angles, and built-in elements that extended the geometric pattern throughout the house and terraces. Adapted to a sloping site, the complex grew beyond the main residence to include several auxiliary buildings and gardens. Damaged in the 1989 Loma Prieta earthquake, it was restored with seismic reinforcement by April 1999 and is recognized as a National Historic Landmark.
