On May 18, 1918, employees of the Aetna Chemical Company's Oakdale Plant lost their lives in an explosion while manufacturing materials necessary to the United States in the prosecution of the war against Germany. They were honored as having died in their country's service like soldiers, and the unidentified dead repose in this plot. The dead named here are E. R. Gian. Bastiani, G. W. Bell, J. N. Bell, H. M. Bever, Earl V. Bohn, John Bolton, L. D. Burdick, Frank J. Cassidy, W. Clother, John A. Davis, John Davidson, J. A. Dayton, Fred Dilbeck, S. H. Diehl, Charles A. Early, John Farrell, George Fernald, Henry Fossey, John Graham, Robert Gilbert, John Gass, Andreas Holmquist, Louis Jericho, John J. Kennedy, Joe Lucas, George F. Miller, W. W. Monroe, Patrick McManus, John C. Roberts, John Remark, W. S. Sigendall, W. E. Souser, George Smith, Matthew Smith, Vivian E. Terry, James Wilhelm, J. M. Weldon, Joseph Yorio, and Geek Zimmerman.
