Melvin (Blackie) Burger lived in Carsonville for 54 years and loved the town. A member of the Lions Club for 36 years, he was inspired to help plan and build this park along with other club members. He received the Melvin Jones Award, was named Citizen of the Year in 1995 and 1997, and the park was named Blackie Burger Memorial Park in 1998.
